Goat to Hero

Sunday wiffle really doesn't count. The real games are Saturdays. Sunday wiffle is a fickle friend-with-benefits. Sometimes Sunday wiffle is exactly what you need. Sometimes Sunday wiffle throws all your stuff out on the lawn and sets it on fire while the neighbors watch, stupefied mouths agape.

Some games nothing goes your way, until it does. Matt, who is by the way in need of a nickname in the post-stats era (suggest one in the comments), had just such a Sunday.

Teamed with Hansoo, Matt spent all the innings, save the last one, grounding out weakly to the pitcher. He fared ok in his first two innings on the mound but then was torched for 8 runs, including a Mosser grand slam, in his third turn on the bump. Hansoo slapped triples and singles, with a homer of his own, but refrained from slapping his teammate who was ruining every scoring chance.

Then came the final inning.

Down 8-3, Hansoo, Matt and Emma, inserted into the lineup for fun, 'cause really, "what could happen?" strung together enough hits to bring Matt to the plate with the bases loaded, two outs, down by three.

Grand salami time! A soaring, majestic blast, just out of the reach of Brent.

But, then Matt had to go to the mound for his fourth inning (6th in two days, whipper-snappers) to protect this 9-8 lead. Kurt's lead off double was an ill omen, but subsequent strikeouts of da Commish and Brent brought Kurt back up with two out, winning run at the plate.

And the Award for Most Fitting Ending goes to... Kurt's ground out to the pitcher. Ballgame.
