Mosser and Ha were each peppered with a series of singles and doubles, and each surrendered two runs in the first two innings of today's action.
Berwald and LaDuca really have the bats going as well as their arms, and have a 4-0 lead going into the third inning.
Hansoo, Kurt - 0
Peter, Brian - 4

Goat to Hero
Some games nothing goes your way, until it does. Matt, who is by the way in need of a nickname in the post-stats era (suggest one in the comments), had just such a Sunday.
Teamed with Hansoo, Matt spent all the innings, save the last one, grounding out weakly to the pitcher. He fared ok in his first two innings on the mound but then was torched for 8 runs, including a Mosser grand slam, in his third turn on the bump. Hansoo slapped triples and singles, with a homer of his own, but refrained from slapping his teammate who was ruining every scoring chance.
Then came the final inning.
Down 8-3, Hansoo, Matt and Emma, inserted into the lineup for fun, 'cause really, "what could happen?" strung together enough hits to bring Matt to the plate with the bases loaded, two outs, down by three.
Grand salami time! A soaring, majestic blast, just out of the reach of Brent.
But, then Matt had to go to the mound for his fourth inning (6th in two days, whipper-snappers) to protect this 9-8 lead. Kurt's lead off double was an ill omen, but subsequent strikeouts of da Commish and Brent brought Kurt back up with two out, winning run at the plate.
And the Award for Most Fitting Ending goes to... Kurt's ground out to the pitcher. Ballgame.
Hansoo, Matt, (Emma) - 9
Brent, Kurt, Peter - 8

You know what they say about ties...
Bow ties are cool.
Wiffle ties are like kissing your sister, unless your team was down 5-1 going into their last at bat and you tie it up with two outs. Then it's sweet.
Four wifflers thought today's tie was sweet. Five wifflers did not.
Brian, Kevin, Hansoo, Glen, Fred - 5

It's Just a Wiffle Ball
Well, it's been more than a month, maybe there should be a TWIW blog entry today. Anything good to write up?
One of the most intriguing aspects of today's game was the use of the "Hand Operated Scoreboard." To wit:
This form of run tallying provides a great deal more information than the traditional method as it breaks the game up into its constituent innings. As you can see there was a furious comeback attempt by the home-boys that fell tantalizingly short. But still there is so much information not conveyed here. Fortunately, we have a blog for that.
See that run in the top of the first? Da Commish surrendered that run, after Krash Mosser dropped an easy fly ball in the outfield. In a fully scored game that would be an UNEARNED run. It would prove the losing run.
See that run in the top of the second? Krash Mosser allowed that run. I can't remember if that was the Artist's dinger or if the Artist hit his dinger off Kurt in the fourth, but anyway you get the gist.
See those two runs in the bottom of the sixth? Those were allowed by Glen, as he recorded a very shaky save. He loaded the bases and then gave up those two runs and the bases were loaded again and then he struck out... Kurt, I think... ? To end the game.
It was a rough day for Kurt on the asphalt; be sure to ask him about it next time you see him in the produce section at DLM. And it seems that Stats gets a lot more mouthy without a clipboard and scoresheet in his hand.
So that final column:
those are the run totals for the day. Pretty low scoring affair but a great deal of fun, despite the best efforts of E.D. Smith teachers to ruin our play with their faux retro "cars".
Glen, Matt, Hansoo - 3
Kurt, Peter - 2
